This is for the best.
Earlier this year, I planned on becoming a filmmaker for the rest of my life. But I never really made anything. How could I call myself a filmmaker when I never made a single movie outside of the occasional school project? I decided I was going to take action and push myself to make a YouTube channel to truly explore who I am as a storyteller and as a filmmaker.
For over five months, I have made a video every single week. And this process of making a video every week and turning it into a part of my daily routine has become so ingrained with all my natural habits that I sort of don't even have to really think about what video I want to make because it has become so easy for me to just make something at the same time every week. It's like a reflex. Even if I procrastinate to the last minute, I still get it done. Every Wednesday, I upload a video. It could be about video games, it could be about movies, it could be about productivity, or it could just be about me and what I'm thinking about.
The whole channel is a scope of what I think about, really. I don't force myself to make a specific type of video because maybe I wake up one day and don't feel like reviewing a movie or making a vlog. I do whatever is natural. But after making videos for all this time, it's occurred to me that filmmaking may not even be what I want to pursue. I enjoy telling stories and talking to a camera but along that journey of trying to define myself as a filmmaker, I've discovered that I also really enjoy writing.I write every single day. I write pages upon pages for hours and hours. I've learned that when I don't write, I sort of lose track of who I am as a person and as a creator.
My writing may still need some work but that's why I'm starting this blog.I'm starting a blog in the same fashion as when I started my YouTube channel. My YouTube channel helped me hone in on who I am as a filmmaker and it's only poetic that this blog helps me hone in on who I am as a writer. I think it's for the best. With no expectations, I'm looking forward to see how this blog can help me understand more about myself as a creator.
